Another trip coming fast! This time the entire family – we and our kids plus Parents in law -traveling to Hawaii!
So, what will the trip involve?
Dates:
– Apr 11th to Apr 19th, 2022
Itinerary:
– Fly Southwest to OGG and back
– Stay eight nights at a condo in Kihei rented through Airbnb
– Rent a minivan (to fit all 6 people in it) for the duration of the trip
Credit Card travel awards:
– 144.5K SW miles and $67 for six round trips (one of the tickets is via Companion pass), for the total value of $2,542 (1.7 cents per mile)
– $200 credit for using Venture X card recently opened for DH to pay for Airbnb stay
– $50 saved by purchasing a few Airbnb gift cards through Raise.com
– $350 (approximately) saved on car rental insurance using Chase Sapphire Preferred benefit (hopefully we won’t need to file any claims while in Hawaii)
In total, credit card travel rewards saved us $3,075. While it’s not entirely free, it alleviate some financial burden of the otherwise relatively expensive trip for six. Of course, there will be other expenses, especially related to food, but we hope to cook at our condo mostly, maybe going out to dinner once or twice during the stay. And there will be expenses related to gas (we plan to explore the island extensively, including the road to Hana), and other entertainment, but that’s what the vacations are for! And that would be the first time in a long while when our parents in law travelled, due to COVID dangers.
So looking forward to the actual trip in a week!!
